Eastside Pathways | The Backbone

Founded in July, 2011 the mission of Eastside Pathways (Partnership), based in Bellevue, Washington, is to mobilize community to support children and youth in East King County from cradle to career (birth to
26 years). Families, providers, schools and cities unite around common goals, measurements, to develop and implement strategies that "decrease harm and increase equity" to maximize each child’s opportunity for a fulfilling life.

Eastside Pathways Partnership is supported by the Backbone nonprofit organization which convenes and facilitates the Partnership of 70+ partners. This position is part of the paid Backbone staff.

Position: Community Engagement Professional
Location: Hybrid position, a minimum of 1 day a week in the office. Office located in Bellevue, WA.
Applicants must live in the Puget Sound and have reliable transportation.

Summary
Eastside Pathways | The Backbone is seeking an empathetic, equity driven, courageous, adaptable and highly relational Community Engagement professional. This person will work closely with community, Backbone staff and staff at our partner organizations. This role advocates for, convenes and facilitates the collective work of the Partnership and Backbone both externally and internally to drive the mission, vision and efforts of the Partnership and Backbone.

Position
The Community Engagement professional reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Backbone staff, community, and staff at our partner organizations. This role will be responsible for facilitation and convening of diverse stakeholders both externally and internally to amplify the mission, vision and efforts of the Partnership and Backbone. This role represents Eastside Pathways
Partnership and Backbone at community events, coordinates meeting logistics and works with the community to ensure all of our spaces are dynamic healing and training experiences for participants of Eastside Pathways programs. The Community Engagement Professional is responsible for creating equitable spaces for diverse stakeholders to come together, facilitating Collaborative Action Network meetings series for partners to align on common goals, develop and implement adaptive strategies within their respective lanes. Support in the measurement and continuous improvement of those strategies to track systemic changes for better outcomes for children, youth, and young adults.

We are seeking staff who are adaptable, assertive, and who value community engagement, collaboration, and active listening as foundational skills to drive equitable change in the community.
Active listening and systems thinking are foundational for this role. As our team works both remotely and in office they should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff and partners in a dynamic environment designed to respond to the needs of our community and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities
Note: Capacity building opportunities and on-the-job training will be offered to hone some of the skills mentioned below (Adaptive Leadership, Facilitation skills & tools etc.)

  • Facilitation: Design, communicate and deliver Collaborative Action Networks, Councils, Task Forces and All Partner Meetings regularly.
  • Community Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds and across all sectors especially those most impacted by systems as they are currently designed.
  • Racial Equity: Experience in holding conversations and driving work that fosters racial consciousness and healing. A commitment to your own racial healing journey.
  • Holding Conversations/Groups: Cultivating and maintaining s to support 2-year adaptive leadership cycles with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Uplift and share tools, resources and programming to empower marginalized communities and leads to systems change. Training and/or experience in establishing and leading strengths-based trauma-informed spaces preferred.
  • Program Management: Identify goals, objectives, and scope and create a project plan that outlines the tasks, timelines, and resources required. Communicate with the staff and stakeholders, manage risks and issues, and monitor progress to ensure that the project stays on track.
  • Mentoring: Provide guidance, advice, feedback and support to program stakeholders and partners to support the work of the Partnership and people from within the focus populations.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Research, collect and transfer knowledge from within the community and Eastside Pathways programs with the support of the Marketing and Communications professional to empower stakeholders with information and drive funding strategies. All information collected and transferred must adhere to norms established within each group and/or program.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be a skilled courageous communicator, adept at “on your feet” problem solving, being grounded while navigating difficult situations, naming difficult topics while maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Must be approachable with an ability to foster connection and warmth with community members of various backgrounds.
  • Must possess the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Must have experience and commitment to progressive social justice and racial equity values and the wellness of marginalized communities.
  • Strong communication skills and systems thinking experience.
  • Value for continuous improvement and learning in public. Being willing to assess personal, interpersonal and institutional current state and consistently adapting to increase equity.
  • Background in Adaptive Community Leadership, community-led change and/or facilitation preferred. Training will be provided in Collective Impact, Equitable Results, Results Based Facilitation and all other proprietary models; experience in these models is a bonus.
  • Organizational and project planning skills including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously across teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a Full Time Exempt position with an annual salary of $75,000-$80,000.
Eastside Pathways offers unlimited paid time off with the exception of blackout dates and encourages all staff to take a minimum of 4 weeks annually. Eastside Pathways also observes eleven holidays when the office is closed. A monthly stipend is provided to offset healthcare costs. Eastside Pathways also provides an annual home-office stipend to assist in the setting up of your virtual office space, and provides all employees with an office laptop.
