The Organization

Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland is a Black LGBTQ+-led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland through empowerment, education, and entertainment. Since July 2019, Lighthouse Foundation has launched the nation’s first Black Queer Equity Index, paid over $300,000 dollars to Black LGBTQ+ workers, and built community with 3,100 Chicagoans.

The Role

The Development Coordinator will report to the Director of Development and will execute administrative duties related to fundraising, grant management, and tracking. They will gain firsthand experience in strategic planning to increase the capacity of a growing non-profit organization. This role starts as a contract position with the option to extend after 3 months. This role is perfect for an emerging professional and will serve as the catalyst for a successful career in non-profit fundraising and relationship management for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

General (25%)

  • Work with the Director of Development in maintaining and refining systems for planning and progress monitoring of development activities
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of the development databases (in google sheets) that incorporate event sponsorship and grants
  • Support the Director by taking meeting minutes and inputting action items into the project management platform
  • Perform administrative duties as needed to support fundraising and funder cultivation

Grants (25%)

  • Creating grant portal logins and prepopulating templated information
  • Help maintain and organize spreadsheets with information about upcoming and future grant opportunities
  • Assist in grant research and tracking
  • Support writer for all grants - Reviews for intelligibility, clarity, word count, typos, spelling, grammar, conciseness

Sponsorship (50%)

  • Helps to strategize about corporate outreach and engagement
  • Conduct research on prospective corporate donors fro Ungala and Workforce Development Conference
  • Work with Communications team to create solicitation materials for corporate donors
  • Send out acknowledgments, contracts, and thank you letters.

Job Qualifications

Required

  • Experience with google docs and google sheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of communication principles and practices
  • Attention to detail, project management skills, and being highly organized
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and follow through with minimal direction
  • Interest and desire to learn how to become an impactful development professional
  • Flexibility in varied job assignments
  • Familiarity with social justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ communities
  • An understanding of and belief in, the mission of Lighthouse Foundation
  • 2 years of experience in an administrative role
  • 1 years of experience in a nonprofit setting

Preferred

  • Experience with Asana
  • Experience with donor management software
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • An upbeat, positive attitude and a good sense of humor are a plus
  • 2+ years of development experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a nonprofit setting

Schedule

10/hrs a week.
