Position Summary

The Human Resource Manager is responsible for overseeing the routine day-to-day implementation and compliance of HR functions and initiatives within the organization. This includes but is not limited to onboarding & offboarding, employee relations, time and leave administration, compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of HR best practices. The Human Resource Manager reports to the Director of Human Resources.


 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Successful Onboarding and Offboarding:

  • Smooth integration of new employees, partnering with related stakeholders to ensure they are warmly welcomed and set-up to succeed.
  • Ensuring all onboarding and offboarding tasks, paperwork, and system updates are completed and filed accordingly.
  • Efficient and respectful handling of employee exits; identifying trends to improve retention and job satisfaction.

Positive Workplace Culture:

  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment through effective internal communication and initiatives that align with Amber's core values.
  • Enhanced job satisfaction and retention through proactive employee relations and culture-boosting initiatives.

Employee Support and Compliance:

  • Timely and accurate processing of leaves, employee inquiries, benefits enrollment, and payroll support, ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Comprehensive compliance with federal, state, and local employment-related laws and regulations; identifying necessary updates to Amber policies.
  • Efficient management of staff certifications and licenses, ensuring compliance with our authorizer.
  • Creating and facilitating orientation and various training.
  • Serve as Title IX Coordinator and point of contact for all Title IX concerns.

Performance Management and Employee Relations:

  • Effective handling of employee concerns and grievances, maintaining high morale and accountability.
  • Partnering with managers on employee-related concerns, training needs, and general guidance and support.
  • De-escalating and Mediating conflicts between employees.
  • Support employee development through transparent performance expectations and periodic training.

HR Administration Efficiency:

  • Streamlined management of personnel records and HRIS systems, maximizing efficiency and compliance while ensuring accuracy.
  • Consistent application and communication of HR policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Supporting Director of HR with biweekly payroll preparation.

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in Human Resources generalist functions, with a strong emphasis on detailed human resource systems, processes and compliance.
  • Ability to work on-site at each location (alternating three locations) at least twice a week and as needed.
  • Great time and task management; an ability to prioritize, manage multiple obligations and initiatives, and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Impeccable attention to detail; able to develop and maintain organizational and documentation systems.
  • Outstanding communicator with clear and concise written and oral communication skills and the ability to differentiate messaging towards different learners.
  • Thorough knowledge of New York State employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to interact with others with grace, competence, and warmth.
  • Capacity to develop strong relationships based on trust, respect, and effective communication.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Agile and flexible leader; resourceful problem-solver comfortable making decisions.
  • Comfortable with gradual change in a fast-paced environment and able to move seamlessly as an individual contributor and team member.
  • Proficiency in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) platforms (we use TriNet, NetTime, and Greenhouse).
  • Strong command of all Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
  • Completion and pass pre-employment Fingerprinting and Reference check process.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an urban charter school network or another mission-driven, impactful non-profit organization strongly preferred.
  • Active SHRM or PHR certification.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging presentations.
  • Experience utilizing and managing TriNet, NetTime, and Greenhouse.
  • Skillful mediator comfortable with conflict-resolution.
  • Experience directly supervising at least one person.
  • Experience working with bargaining employees.
  • Familiarity with communication (Mailchimp) and survey (JotForm) platforms.
  • Experience with employee engagement/recognition programs.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand Spanish fluently.

Amber's Expectations:

  • This will be a hybrid role with a minimum of two days per week on-site and as needed, as well as regularly attending school-based events.
  • Compliance with all of Amber's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational webinars/workshops; reviewing professional publications; and participating in professional organizations.

  • Serve as a role model for professionalism at Amber.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • K-8 school environment.
  • 12 month work schedule

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, speak loudly and clearly, visually observe, hear, operate a computer, and other classroom, school and office equipment, reach with hands and arms, bend down, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 20 pounds. Work is being performed in a traditional multi-floor school environment with limited to no elevator access, candidates must be able to access and navigate each school building thoroughly, including a 6-floor walk-up building.

Compensation and Benefits:

Amber Charter Schools strictly follow a salary schedule for each role to ensure our continued commitment towards pay equity. The expected salary range for this role is $80,000- $91,789depending on verified relevant work experience, highest level of completed education, and required certifications and/or licenses for the role. This is an exempt position.
