Full job description

This position reports to the HFH-NYS Board of Directors and is responsible for managing the activities of HFH-NYS. The CEO carries out the policies, procedures, and objectives set by the Board of Directors. The CEO provides leadership to the organization, assures its overall program effectiveness, ensures the acquisition of sufficient resources, and protects and projects a positive statewide presence.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Team-Building
Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems
Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
Actively engage and energize HFH-NYS volunteers, board members, affiliate leadership, partnering organizations, and funders
Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both board and committee operations
Hire, lead, coach, develop, and retain HFH-NYS’ high-performance personnel
Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Advocacy and Education
Actively engage in government relations, and general advocacy for affordable housing initiatives
Promote the work of the New York affiliates to the legislature and state government
Interface with other housing organizations to maintain knowledge of housing initiatives, represent Habitat affiliates’ point of view at a state-wide level, and provide assistance as appropriate

Training and Affiliate Development
Plan, organize, and host an annual state conference and additional trainings and retreats
Identify and solicit speakers to meet the relevant education needs of affiliate staff and volunteers
Coordinate with HFHI initiatives to ensure statewide network is informed
Identify affiliate growth opportunities and address these needs through available resources
Provide disaster planning and coordination

Resource Development
Interface with affiliates on capacity building opportunities
Solicit sponsorships for conference and other events
Develop, implement and manage strategic partnerships benefiting affiliates
Interface with HFHI to advocate for available HFH resources
Explore sustainability opportunities for the ASO
Work with staff to prepare applications for government grants and other funding opportunities

Management and Administration
Supervise the financial and administrational management of the HFH-NYS budget
Serve as liaison with HFHI
Facilitate affiliate, HFHI and other agency relations and communication
Ensure compliance with requirements of all grant contracts
Provide board and committee management and support
Lead the strategic planning process

Expected Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Leadership, facilitation, collaboration, partnership-building, and interpersonal communication skills
Hands-on management of a small team; willingness to assist where needed
Comfort with talking with funders and handling resource development opportunities
Knowledge of urban and rural affordable housing challenges and opportunities, the non-profit housing legal and regulatory environment, and knowledge and experience in residential real estate development, construction and finance, as specifically related to affordable housing
Written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation, marketing, public relations, and advocacy abilities
Grant writing, grant management, and business development skills
Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing and potential board member relationships

Relationships: Specific Duties
Explore ways to work collaboratively with other non-profit organizations
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the following:
Internal: Board of Directors
External: Affiliate board and staff, donors, volunteers; statewide housing leaders; policy makers, including legislators and state agency staff members
Other duties may be assigned that would enable HFH-NYS to perform to the desired level of excellence

Education and Experience Requirements
Experience in advocacy at some level of local or state government
Experience in leadership of a Habitat for Humanity affiliate preferred
Experience and demonstrated success in business, training, or grants development
Experience in affordable housing, poverty issues, or community development preferred
College degree or equivalent business experience

Compensation:
Salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience, salary range: $90K-$120K
