Role: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location: Albuquerque

Relocation package will be considered.

Salary: $75,000-$90,000 with benefits (bracket depending on experience) health benefits include dental & vision

Reports to: Board of Directors

Wings of America is looking for a bold, creative, innovative and experienced non profit leader to come and build a new era of impact and success for the organization.

The Role:

We need someone who will ensure the organization is meeting the highest standards possible for non profit management, all the while building a joyful culture of work that elevates Native thinkers and leaders, building a pipeline of Native excellency in our programs, storytelling, and public positioning.

  • The new CEO will need to have demonstrated strong knowledge about and experience with Native communities in general, and Native youth in particular. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for WoA's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Planning

Articulate WoA’s unique value proposition and the overall strategy and direction of the organization.

Build alignment across the organization. Make sure everyone is running in the same direction. When needed, make the correct adjustments in a way that builds trust, transparency and diminishes mission creep.

Install and maintain a culture of joy, resilience, efficiency and productivity within the organization everyday life. Lead by example!

Work with the Board of Directors and staff to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan. Conduct regular assessments of the organization’s performance and course correct as needed.

Fundraising

Ensure the organization raises enough funds to meet its annual goals and expand its mission reach and impact, monitoring progress toward fundraising goals and making adjustments as needed.

Create and maintain a strong and successful culture of fundraising: make sure the board and staff can tell the organization’s story well, deliver strong pitches, and know how to create as many “right places at the right times” fundraising moments. Work with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to establish fundraising priorities and opportunities, including annual giving campaigns, special events, and grant applications.

Develop and implement donor stewardship plans to maintain strong relationships with donors and secure ongoing support, including regular communication, recognition, and engagement opportunities.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development.

Board support & collaboration

Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors.

Help build, sustain, and strengthen all board functions such as meetings, policy compliance, and committee work. Serve as ex-officio of each committee.

Seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as new strategic rollout. Oversee and report on the organization’s results for the board of directors, providing accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate results, variances, and performance trends.

Management & HR

Retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and volunteers by providing coaching, support, growth, and personal development for all your team members.

Ensure that onboarding, recruitment, retention, management, and staff development are carried out with excellence.

Plan the yearly performance review processes and ensure legal HR compliance at all times.

Create and maintain clear staff roles (job descriptions), and supervising collaborative tasks (projects/meetings) to ensure that they are done efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Admin & Finance

Oversee the organization’s financial management in partnership with the Financial Manager, ensuring that the organization is financially sound and prudent.

Ensure the organization operates correctly and functionally. Monitor financial performance on an ongoing basis, tracking revenue and expenses and making adjustments as needed.

Develop and oversee the organization’s annual budget, working with the Financial Manager and team to ensure that it aligns with the organization’s goals and priorities.

Work with the Financial manager to coordinate annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with the Board and team.

Programmatic Oversight

Ensure WoA meets the highest possible programmatic standards in programs, safeguarding, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E).

Design and maintain a robust safeguarding policy.

Design and maintain a robust M&E system that allows WoA to track its impact footprint through results-based data. Ensure timely reporting and publishing of all impact reports.

Support the programs’ team as needed.

THE CANDIDATE:

The right candidate will be a Native leader with a combination of many different experience and skill sets, as well as a strong track record of resourcing social change and Native-focused work.

We would love to find someone who brings a lot of experience in building, supporting and mentoring teams; and who has a deep understanding of how to achieve organizational efficiency. Ideally, they have experience in designing and leading successful non-profit growth and expansion phases in the past.

Finally, we also need someone who will manage to create, maintain and nurture a work culture deeply rooted in joy, inclusion, collaboration and support. We wish to find someone who leads by example.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Unwavering and demonstrated commitment to Native communities in general, and Native youth in particular. Thematic experience with sports for youth development is a plus.

Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.

Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships and build new ones.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with a commitment to integrity, and accountability Ability to thrive in a small team and lead in a flexible and adaptive way

Creative problem-solving skills that come with enthusiasm and creativity

Master's Degree in Leadership, Sociology or Native American/American Indian Studies preferred, but Bachelor Degree candidates with relevant experience will be considered.

7+ years of non-profit management experience

5+ years management or supervisory experience
