Structure

The Director, Human Resources is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UC Foundation) and reports to the Vice President for Human Resources.

Focus

The Director is responsible for the coordination and management of various human resources functions for the organization, working closely with the Vice President (VP) for Human Resources, specifically in the areas of employee relations, professional development and training, and compliance.

Specific Duties

  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to supervisors (coaching, counseling, career development, PIP facilitation, disciplinary actions) in conjunction with VP for Human Resources.
  • Responds to employee relations issues such as employee suggestions, complaints or concerns and participates in thorough and objective investigations where necessary.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of employment legislation, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Develops, submits for review/approval, and implements personnel policies and procedures including annual handbook update.
  • Oversees organization-wide performance evaluation process; leads annual training, responds to and advises supervisors on the process, reviews and prepares reports of aggregated results to identify talent gaps and training needs, and reports out to leadership.
  • Facilitates organization-wide annual goal setting process; ensuring consistency across the organization.
  • Collaborates with VP for Human Resources on development and implementation of training initiatives and programs to ensure success.
  • Leads solicitation of employee feedback via surveys, analyzes results, reports on and makes recommendations for next steps to leadership.
  • Assesses and enhances student employment opportunities, in collaboration with Talent Acquisition, to grow and develop the talent pipeline.
  • Serves as back-up for talent acquisition functions, i.e. interviews, pre-employment checks, etc.
  • Represents the University of Cincinnati Foundation within the community and the academic and advancement realms as an employer of choice.
  • Maintains HRIS records and compiles reports from the database, as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of HR Generalist experience, or advanced degree with 3-5 years of experience.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong communications skills with demonstrated ability to positively engage with a diverse group of individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain up to date on laws, standards and government regulations.
  • Proficient in HRIS and other relevant technology
  • A commitment to and passion for the role of Human Resources in advancing the mission and vision of the UC Foundation.

What We Offer

The anticipated starting salary range for the Director of Human Resources role is $80,000-$95,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.

Physical Demands

This position is considered to have sedentary work. Exerting up to 10lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position requires:

  • Repetitive motion of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, this position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
