Job Title: Human Resources Director

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: $66,000 - $76,000

Summary: Develops policy and directs and coordinates human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services; assists in organizational culture, recruitment, retention, and career development at all levels. The Human Resources Director will be a strong contributor to driving high-value human resource service and support. The person in this role will need to be innovative, agile, resilient, highly collaborative, and a trusted advisor. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Human Resources Director will join a team serving Spokane County to support the organization’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supports Strategic HR transformation efforts.

Works closely with department heads on short and long-term business objectives relating to organizational alignment, performance management, and employee engagement.

Manages the Human Resources Department Includes oversight of recruitment, hiring, employee lifecycle, performance management, personnel files, HR compliance, and fair and equal human resource practices.

Integrates diversity, equity and inclusion into business practices and works in alignment with Habitat for Humanity-Spokane’s values of humility, courage, accountability and integrity.

Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate the organization’s population in accordance with diversity standards and goals and grant compliance

Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization's diversity goals.

Drafts and implements recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.

Develops and/or acquires training and development to aid diversity and retention initiatives.

Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. Demonstrates strong organizational skills and experience integrating project management methodologies.

Uses their Employee Relations experience and consulting abilities with staff at all levels to resolve HR matters.

Ensure the Employee Handbook is compliant with all current state and local laws and follows the policies adopted and approved by the Board of Directors.

Provides guidance to supervisory staff in developing objective performance and other employee evaluations and policies.

Acts as organization liaison with government agencies concerning affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.

Provides training and policy updates to colleagues, ensuring legal compliance of management and staff.

Oversees benefits program for employees, manages COBRA, works with accounting department to ensure calculations of hours are accurate and works with benefits providers to garner the best coverage for employees at the best rate for Habitat-Spokane.

Oversees insurance claims and manages the risk department. Determines where training and documentation in the form of safety manuals and policies are needed and ensures they are current.

Works with employees with insurance claims for accidents and communicates with local vendors as needed to resolve claims and disputes.

Oversees background checks on employees as required by Habitat-Spokane policy

Supports supervisors with preparing and conducting performance reviews for their staff. Host Site Manager for all AmeriCorps members serving with affiliate.

Conducts training for AmeriCorps supervisors and staff on the requirements, reporting, prohibited activities, and job responsibilities of each AmeriCorps member.

Oversees the AmeriCorps program and the work-study program with local colleges and universities.

Represent HfH-S in all aspects of professional service, abiding by all policies and procedures. Attends all Habitat for Humanity-Spokane Events.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises the HR Generalist and HR Assistant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Host Site Manager for AmeriCorps members.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; At least seven years of Human Resources or related experience required with at least four years in a leadership role. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP required.

HR Project Management experience preferred
Non-Profit experience is a plus but not required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Notary Public, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP required.
