Job Title: Director of Development
Location: Pembroke, MA (on-site)
Summary of Position:
The Director of Development is responsible for implementing New England Village’s (NEV) fundraising strategy in order to increase philanthropic revenue for the organization from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources. Working closely with the VP, CEO, Board of Directors and NEV’s Leadership Team, the Director of Development will generate a sustainable pipeline of funding to meet the organization’s short- and long-term needs.
The Director of Development is responsible for fund development for these purposes:
- Operating Support
- Major Projects, including new programs and collaborative ventures
- Future Capital Campaigns including expansion, remodeling and major equipment
- Endowment FunPlanned Giving Program
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and implements the comprehensive annual giving, major/capital and planned giving philanthropic fund-raising programs including, but not limited to prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Individual giving:
- Expand the annual giving program.
- Develop a leadership (top 10% of donors) annual giving program.
- Develop a formal major gifts program.
- Work with professionals such as lawyers, financial advisors, accountants, etc. if and as appropriate.
Foundation Grant Seeking:
- Work with leadership team to identify funding priorities for each fiscal year.
- Expand the program if and as prospective funders are identified.
- Ensure all deadlines and reporting requirements are met for all grants.
Corporate & Business Giving:
- Develop a corporate sponsorship and/or business giving program if and as directed.
Cultivation and Stewardship:
- Receive and manage inquiries from potential donors. Send appropriate materials in response to inquiries.
- Visit and telephone prospective and current donors when appropriate.
- Plan and implement any donor recognition activities.
Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with staff and external stakeholders to raise awareness of the case for philanthropic support and to clarify giving opportunities.
- Represent NEV and interpret the mission and programs with passion, knowledge, and professionalism wherever opportunities arise.
Development Office Operation:
Utilize appropriate fundraising database software to manage and track all prospect and donor management including, but not limited to:
- Prospect and donor demographic, familial, business and organizational relationships.
- Donor and prospect contacts, meeting and proposals.
- Gift recording, receipt and acknowledgement.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess impeccable communication skills, be highly detail oriented, self-motivated and a strategic thinker. This position requires a high-degree of responsibility and productivity.
The Director of Development must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree preferred and 5 years of development experience. Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials a plus.
- A proven track record for cultivating relationships and securing funding commitments from individuals, foundations and corporations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- A high level of emotional intelligence.
- Proven ability to work independently and collegially with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm for advocating for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
- Familiarity with CRM nonprofit software, donor databases and other fundraising technology. Experience with or ability to learn DonorPerfect preferred.
- Proficient with social media platforms.
- Excellent understanding of best practices.
