JOB SUMMARY:
The Workforce and Leadership Development Coordinator develops positive, long-term relationships with industry representatives by offering support and strengthening connections with businesses, educational institutions and industry professionals to address workforce and leadership development needs. He or she will provide leadership and supervision to industry sector partnerships and lead in creating workforce and leadership solutions for tourism. This is a grant-funded, contract position through June 30, 2025.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Meet with local industry representatives to determine workforce, leadership and talent needs
- Develop and maintain relationships with training providers to develop necessary and responsive solutions
- Provide opportunities for business and industry to assist with the development of training programs to include apprenticeships, internships, micro-credentialing, job shadowing and work-based learning
- Oversee development and execution of leadership and professional development programs
- Build and maintain productive relationships with public-sector, private-sector and non-profit employers to create career pathways for future talent
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with tourism entities, economic development entities, chamber organizations and other workforce development agencies to ensure alignment and execution of collaborative workforce strategies to include talent pipeline management
- Provide oversight and management of industry sector partnerships and any workforce solutions and/or outputs that result from industry input
- Gather information for additional funding opportunities to support workforce solutions and programming
- Develop and maintain a database of employers and/or industry representatives and maintain regular communications with them
- Gather labor market information, talent demand and skills requirements and translating data into meaningful information to create workforce development strategies
- Build and maintain productive relationships with public-sector, private-sector and non-profit employers to create career pathways for program participants
- Oversee reporting of metrics for workforce and leadership development initiatives
- Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director in response to a rapidly changing environment
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least two (2) years relevant work experience required. A master’s degree in a related human service field preferred. Extensive experience in a related field will also be considered.
- Ability to accomplish objectives by organizing and monitoring work processes
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint
- Proven leadership skills including the ability to manage stakeholder groups; ability to work collaboratively with the MTA team as well as multiple partners, including employers, community colleges, government entities, policy decision makers, community based non-profit organizations, job seekers and other key stakeholders
- Experience with leadership development programming and strategies
- Keen appreciation for follow-up and follow-through as well as attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and without supervision in a remote capacity
- Experience working in and with industry; good working knowledge of the region’s tourism industry, especially as it relates to the workforce needs of employers
- Knowledge of economic and workforce development practices, systems, and program design; knowledge of training systems
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing and making presentations to groups and individuals
- Possession of a valid Mississippi driver’s license as statewide travel will be required
Terms of Employment
This is a grant-funded, contract position through June 30, 2025. Continued employment will be contingent on funding availability. Full-time, typically Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. This is remote position within the state of Mississippi. Some nights, weekends, and overnight travel may be required occasionally.
