The Marbridge Foundation currently has a part-time opportunity for a weekend barn assistant. The barn assistant is responsible for the care and feeding of the herd of equine therapy horses twice each day on Saturday and Sunday and on all holidays.

The size of the herd may vary at times and currently includes 16 geldings and 2 donkeys. Select residents may come down to the barn on weekends to assist, so the candidate should be comfortable working with adults ages 18 – 70 with various cognitive challenges. All work should promote the safety, well-being and happiness of Marbridge residents.

The Marbridge Foundation is a long term care community that offers care to adults with a wide variety of cognitive abilities. We provide our residents with opportunities to learn, experience, and achieve a whole new life. Our residents lead busy lives, participating in any of our 150 classes offered on-site at our 200 acre campus.

 

Shift Details

This position is a very part-time opportunity that requires commitment to work every weekend and holiday for 3-4 hours per day.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Feed each morning and each evening on the weekend. Feeding hours are flexible, morning feeding should happen between 7:00am – 9:30am and evening feeding should happen between 4:00pm – 6:30pm
  • Administer basic medications and first aid to horses when needed
  • Clean stalls and change water buckets once per day
  • Ability to work with adults with cognitive challenges in a patient, kind and professional manner while working with horses in an extremely SAFE environment. RESIDENTS ARE OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY!
  • Clock-in and clock-out properly using the Marbridge time clock system. Turn in green sheets when punches are missed. Request time off at least two weeks in advance
  • Ensure that the barn, feed room and tack room are maintained in a neat and clean manner. Contact the Equine Coordinator and or Director of Training & Education for maintenance issues
  • Contact the Equine Coordinator and or Director of Training & Education if a horse is sick or injured. Contact the specified vet clinic for emergency cases
  • Communicate any concerns to the Equine Coordinator and or Director of Training & Education via the whiteboard at the barn or in urgent or emergency cases via cell phone

 

Education, Experience & Skills Required

  • Basic equine knowledge including but not limited to feeding, catching, haltering and providing basic first aid when needed for horses.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have transportation to and from work each day.
  • Previous experience and comfort with horses mandatory
  • Must be able to communicate in an effective manner
  • Must return phone calls, text messages and emails from supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Must always speak to residents in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Must be able to handle horses in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to lift feed bags and square bales of hay (often meeting or exceeding 50 pounds) and push a wheel barrow.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 per week

  • Weekends only
