Job Summary:
The Metis Foundation is seeking a full-time, Exempt Operations Associate to join our team and help build and maintain our operations in Bethesda, Maryland. The Operations Associate will report to the Human Resource Specialist and will perform tasks across the pre-award and post-award departments to ensure efficiency in employee onboarding, record-keeping, and identifying new funding opportunities for interested collaborators.
This position will be in support of The Metis Foundation Core Office and work closely with the Metis programs located at Uniformed Services University, specifically the Military Cardiovascular Outcomes Research program (MiCOR) in Bethesda, Maryland. The MiCOR Program is intended to understand the impact of military service- particularly precision medicine, stress, weight gain, exercise, and pharmacotherapy- on cardiovascular risk. The mission of the MiCOR Program is to enhance the cardiovascular health and well-being of the Warfighter and the DoD community through innovative clinical research using precision techniques. MiCOR has a variety of clinical research studies focused on both the biomedical and behavioral components that contribute to cardiovascular risk and disease. The selected candidate may be required to obtain a Secret Clearance and undergo credentialing before beginning work. This work site requires that non-US citizen incumbents have lived in the US for three consecutive years out of the past five years.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborate with program managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings and participate in interviews as needed.
- Collaborate with both the Human Resources Specialist and program team to determine staffing needs, post and monitor hiring sites, and review resumes.
- Assist with new hire orientation, training, and onboarding with the Metis Foundation, affiliated PEO, and site locations
- Assist with the preparation and execution of the performance review process.
- Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and current employee documentation
- Implement HR policies throughout the Foundation.
- Assist with external business development and recruiting efforts by representing the Metis Foundation at exhibitions and conferences bringing awareness to the Metis Foundation.
- Serve as the local HR point of contact through continued strong employee relationships and regular visits to research site locations.
- Processes required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters
- Process employees’ queries and respond in a timely manner
- Ensures strong levels of customer service to Principal Investigators and research teams being served. Support as a liaison and an active partner between principal investigators, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries.
- Find funding opportunities using sponsor websites and search engines based on research interests provided by the researcher. Be able to read and understand funding opportunities to determine feasibility, eligibility, and appropriateness.
- Review and submit proposals in the appropriate external portal complying with the requirements of the funding announcement and knowledge of the portal.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Qualifications, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2+ years of business administrative or human resources experience preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Extensive knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.

All Full-time positions are eligible for benefits. Eligibility for part-time positions may vary.
Compensation Range: $55,000 – $65,000
Physical Capabilities
Ability to frequently remain in a stationary position; operate a computer and other standard office equipment; visual capacity to review and edit documents; converse by telephone and in person. Some bending, lifting up to 30 lbs., and grasping.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional office environment that includes the operation of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, calculators, and filing cabinets. Moderate noise levels.
