Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno Counseling Services (UNR CS) is recruiting for a full-time, 12-month position for a combination Generalist/Suicide Prevention Specialist Postdoctoral Fellowship. The postdoctoral fellowship will be divided into: 60% effort working as a generalist clinician and 40% effort working as a counselor on a multi-site NIMH-funded grant (R01 MH116052; PI: Jacqueline Pistorello, Ph.D.) aiming to treat suicidal college students. Participation as a counselor on the grant is voluntary and will include treating suicidal college students and being intensively trained by national experts on two empirically validated, suicidality-focused approaches: Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Under supervision, the Postdoctoral Fellow will provide a full range of psychological counseling, including individual and group therapy, initial consultations, urgent care, crisis intervention, CAMS and DBT, and outreach and consultation services to university students. This position will receive a comprehensive training experience in University Counseling Services, which combines a “generalist” and suicidality-focused approach. The majority of this work is accomplished via one-to-one contact with students, but may also be extended to faculty, campus organizations and other professional members of the community. Post-docs at UNR CS receive a minimum of 90 minutes of individual supervision per week, participate in post-doc group/cohort supervision, and have access to didactic training seminars.

The preferred start date for this position is August 1, 2023, although a flexible start date may be considered if necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited institution in clinical or counseling psychology conferred prior to the start of the postdoctoral fellowship. The candidate must have completed a doctoral internship, in which they received supervision for counseling and psychotherapy activities, by the anticipated start date of the position.




• The doctoral degree must have been completed within the five years immediately preceding the first date of appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University.




• The individual cannot have held previous positions in the professional ranks.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a doctoral internship at an APA-accredited site

Interest in developing expertise in CAMS/DBT and/or suicide prevention

Prior experience conducting clinical work at a university counseling center

Experience providing counseling services to underserved populations and passion/interest in serving members from diverse groups.

Compensation Grade

Postdoctoral Scholar, $53,000 for a full-time, 12-month position
