Department/Division Purpose:

The STEM Center promotes awareness and student achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Job Summary Statement:
The STEM Outreach Coordinator develops outreach activities for the STEM EDGE projects. This work includes setting up all programming, contacting K-12 schools and other organizations to schedule activities, ensuring purchases of necessary supplies are made, collecting data regarding participants, marketing activities, securing presenters, and attending all events to ensure activities are implemented as planned.

This position has been identified by Pueblo Community College as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines. As a Campus Security Authority, the incumbent in this position is required to report crimes that they become aware of to the Department of Public Safety at Pueblo Community College and must attend annual training related to these responsibilities.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.

 

Job Duties

Essential Functions


  • Manages STEM outreach activities for K-12 students throughout the service areas.
  • Researches the types of STEM supplies and equipment needed, the use of the equipment in a classroom setting, and the assessment of student knowledge of the supplies and equipment usage in the form of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Assesses students to determine best practices in STEM activity delivery methods.
  • Communicates with a diverse population including K-12 students, their parents, and STEM professionals.
  • Serves as a key leader in developing and maintaining partnerships with the area educational institutions administration and faculty.
  • Works with PCC leaders, K-12 School administration, and other youth services in identifying, building and delivering exceptional STEM experiences.
  • Analyze collected data from site visits to determine best practices for STEM engagement.
  • Works with academic personnel to enlist them to attend activities, to share information, answer questions, and give lessons related to STEM topics.
  • Maintains Hands-on STEM Spaces that focus on 3D printing and robotics.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for visitors to ensure positive interactions between PCC and the students/community/faculty.
  • Monitors the facility and notifies appropriate personnel when safety or security issues are identified, or other facilities needs are identified.
  • Ensures that the facility is open and accessible at scheduled times.
  • Implements business practices to ensure PCC Operating Protocols and Procedures are followed.
  • Administrates various forms, reports, records, and requests.
  • Documents all services provided in the STEM student database system.
  • Manages inventory of supplies for STEM site and outreach activities and initiates reordering process when necessary.
  • Ensures labs are properly equipped and that classroom technology is functioning at the highest levels.

  • Assesses individual and department work processes and recommends improvements.
  • Complies with State Fiscal Rules, State Board policies, System and College protocols, and departmental procedures.
  • Obtains and maintains proficiency with required systems and equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.
  • Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
  • Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from a regionally accredited institution.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Valid state drivers license.

Experience:

  • Two years working in an educational environment with K-12 students.
  • Experience teaching/presenting STEM activities, robotics, 3D modeling, 3D printing, and/or event planning.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of laws, accreditation standards, and best practices pertaining to STEM programs, STEM careers, and federal grants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Ellucian Banner.
  • Able to unload a trailer, move and set up presentation material and equipment, and load trailer.
