This position supports strengths-based cultural and educational programs for the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center’s (CIMCC) Native, K-12, and general public audiences.
This is a full-time position with an innovative, Native-led organization based in Sonoma County, California and serving Tribal communities statewide.
The Program Manager (PM) is responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating these programs in collaboration with other CIMCC staff members, ensuring they meet the needs of our diverse audiences and the requirements of our funders.
The PM has knowledge of and hands-on experience working with Native people and communities and are able to apply community-based, culturally sustaining and historical trauma-informed approaches and practices in your work.
The PM should be enthusiastic and willing to learn about and address issues in Indigenous education, cultural arts, food sovereignty and security, public health, climate resilience, and other subjects that comprise CIMCC’s strategic focus.
Experience managing federal and state grant-funded programs is essential. Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous evaluation is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Manage CIMCC’s grant-funded educational, cultural arts, food sovereignty and security, public health, climate resilience, and/or other programs as assigned. Facilitate Native youth involvement and empowerment in these programs by working with the CIMCC youth program staff.
- Manage federal, state, tribal, private foundation and/or corporate grants to meet the goals and objectives of CIMCC’s strength-based cultural and educational programs. Develop and/or manage grant scopes of work to track program timelines, objectives, and outcomes, working closely with other assigned staff and grant program officers using in-person and/or remote project management meetings and follow-up. Monitor and manage the work of project consultants and confer with the Project Director or Executive Director on corrective actions as needed. Attend in-person and remote grant oversight meetings and conferences as assigned. Work closely with CIMCC’s financial staff on program budgeting, purchasing, and expenditures to stay on track with program finances and grant spend-down. Devise and implement appropriate tools and methods for tracking program progress on stated outcomes in coordination with other staff and if applicable, external evaluation consultants. Perform program progress and final reporting as assigned. Work with CIMCC development staff to continuously resource these programs.
- Work as a member of program Advisory Committees in collaboration with other CIMCC staff, Tribal Culture Bearers and Elders, consultants, and agencies/services in the Native and wider communities to develop and effectively deliver CIMCC programs and services.
- Continuously develop a roster of Tribal Culture Bearers and Elders to work with CIMCC programs and cultivate relationships with these consultants.
- Lead and/or participate in internal and external evaluation of CIMCC strength-based cultural and educational programs to demonstrate their efficacy for Native communities and to continuously improve them.
- Adhere to CIMCC policies and procedures and act as an ambassador to the audiences served by CIMCC.
- ·Ensures program participant and community confidentiality and privacy in accordance with professional regulatory guidelines and following standards of ethical practice and legal requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Familiarity with the practices, customs, values, and traditions of California Indian and other Native communities.
- Knowledge and skills in federal and state grant management and administration and demonstrated ability to manage grant-funded programs through 3+ years of previous experience and successful completion of grants.
- Aware of and applies professional ethics and approaches to resolve ethical dilemmas.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of allied professionals, formal and informal community leaders, and Tribal Culture Bearers and/or Elders, including facilitating advisory committees composed of these groups.
- Strong mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills in English to establish and maintain a wide range of contacts with allied professionals and community organizations. Analyze and make independent decisions, think critically, and be innovative to create/modify strategies or methods to suit the needs of CIMCC program participants and improve program performance.
- Effectively advocate for Native populations.
- Provide leadership and work direction.
- Develop and implement project action plans and accomplish objectives with a team, including producing assigned deliverables in a timely manner and within budget.
- Ability to maintain high standard of confidentiality and adhere to confidentiality procedures.
- Strong time management skills.
- Able to travel to grant meetings and conferences as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in non-profit management preferred; Bachelor’s degree acceptable with adequate experience.
- 3+ years of experience successfully managing and completing grant-funded programs. Experience managing state and federal grants is required. Experience managing Native programs highly desired.
- Previous experience working with Native adults, and children in a public, Tribal, or other capacity.
- Knowledge and experience working with Native American communities, culture, and customs.
- Able to pass a criminal background check.
- Current valid California driver’s license.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $68,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
