Full Job Description

POSITION TITLE:Program Coordinator

LOCATION: HFNYC’s Bronx Offices and at community partner agencies across NYC

DESCRIPTION:

Hunger Free New York City (HFNYC), a division of Hunger Free America, strives to build a nonpartisan, grassroots movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end hunger in New York City and ensure that all New Yorkers have sufficient access to nutritious food.

A significant aspect of HFNYC’s work is connecting eligible residents to Federal, State, and City Benefits Programs. HFNYC aims to expand its services through a call center designed to assist potentially eligible clients throughout the application process for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children), Cash Assistance, and Fair Fares. By helping individuals and families access these benefits, HFNYC reduces financial strain on households, allowing them to allocate income toward other pressing needs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for establishing operations and managing the day-to-day activities of the call center.
  • Collaborate with the team of Benefits Specialists to ensure clients contacting the call center are accurately pre-screened for all applicable benefits, including SNAP, WIC, CA, and/or FF.
  • Work closely with the Director of Benefits Access and Program Manager to establish a consistent and flexible workflow, ensuring all monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting meet established requirements.
  • Assist in training and managing new Benefits Specialists on SNAP, CA, WIC, and Fair Fare programs.
  • Provide direct services as needed, both remotely and in person, to assist clients with determining eligibility and applying for these benefits.
  • Collaborate with the Child Nutrition Program Manager to strengthen and enhance the WIC referral system, as well as develop additional referral processes as needed.
  • Build strong connections with local community-based organizations, including food pantries, soup kitchens, medical facilities, faith-based groups, and elected officials’ offices across the city.

QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred, although people with significant relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge in anti-hunger/nutrition programs, including benefits screening (esp. for SNAP, CA and FF) and experience working in low-income communities.
  • Experience (ideally at least 2 years) in direct program management and supervision.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and leading community events.
  • High-energy self-starter with strong communications, problem solving, organizing, inter-personal, and team-building skills.
  • Commitment to fighting poverty and hunger.
  • Some flexibility with schedule required, including some nights and weekends.
  • Working knowledge of databases (such as Airtable and Salesforce) is a plus.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite.
This is a full-time, 35-hour per week position.

Hourly Rate: Between $
30.21- $32.41, based on experience.

Hunger Free America offers significant benefits to full-time employees, including a strong health insurance plan which includes fully paid employee premiums and a health reimbursement account.

Employees receive generous vacation, holiday, and sick time.
HOW TO APPLY:

Submit a resume and cover letter. Applications not containing both a resume and a cover letter will not be reviewed.

HFNYC is an equal opportunity employer. People of diverse races, sexual orientations, ages, faiths, economic and social backgrounds, genders, physical abilities, and national origins are strongly encouraged to apply.
